What are the differences between Mulard and Indo-female and which breed is better

Keeping poultry is not particularly troublesome, but it brings quality products. Ducks are in second place after chickens. And no wonder. These birds are unpretentious, and their meat is juicier and more nutritious. Breeders have bred more than 30 breeds. The most popular in our country are mulards and musky ducks. Before introducing these birds, it is worth finding out how the mularda differ from the Indo-women in appearance and conditions of detention, and which species is more profitable to breed.

Indoor description

Another name - musky - is due to the peculiarity of old individuals, the area on the head of which gives off musk. Indo-duck are also called mute, because they do not know how to quack. The wild ancestors of these birds still live in Mexico and South America.

There are several types of domestic Indo-Wing, depending on the color of the plumage: black white-winged, black, white, blue white-winged, brown, hazel, blue. Musks are strikingly different from their counterparts. They are larger, drakes weigh up to 7 kg, females - up to 3.5 kg. Therefore, the main focus of the breed is meat. On the head near the beak, they have a skin growth or "wart", similar to a turkey's earring.

Thanks to their strong wings, Indo-girls are able to fly and love to sit somewhere on the roof of a barn or a fence, which looks funny and ridiculous. Musk meat is tender, non-greasy, tastes like wild duck. Recommended for dietetic food. Eggs contain a lot of protein, B vitamins and trace elements.

Features of mulard

This new breed appeared just a few years ago in France, but has already proven itself excellently. Mulards are the result of crossing a male Indo-duck and a female Peking duck. Their color is white with brown. A distinctive feature is a black spot on the head. The birds are unpretentious, resistant to diseases and environmental conditions. They are gaining weight at a record speed and by the age of 3 months reach a weight of 4 kg. And adults of both sexes weigh 6-7 kg.

Mularda are sterile, although the females are actively laying eggs. The liver reaches a mass of 0.5 kg and is even better suited for foie gras cooking. In this regard, in recent years, the demand for the breed has tripled.

The hybrid is called a broiler duck, since the birds quickly gain weight on any feed and do not move. Their meat is fatty and has a high taste.

Differences between Mulard and Indo-women

Musks and mulards are difficult to confuse, but the distinctive features are still better to know:

  1. Only Indo-ducks have a large fleshy outgrowth above the beak and a small crest.
  2. The part of the head near the eyes of the musks is also covered with red skin. In mulard, the plumage covers this area.
  3. The hybrid is cleaner and more relaxed.Mutees, on the other hand, have a grumpy character and often breed dirt in the aviary.
  4. Indo-Ducks have longer and stronger tail and wings.
  5. Musks reproduce successfully on their own, even without the help of an incubator. And mulards are sterile.

What's better?

The question of which breed of ducks to make in their backyard is a priority one worries more than a dozen farmers. Definitely both have their pros and cons.

Mulards are suitable for those who are focused on making a one-time profit or a solid supply of duck for the winter. At the same time, you do not even need to build a special aviary, the birds will live on the site, they will simply choose a convenient corner for themselves.

The hybrid is purchased in the spring, and by the end of summer the ducks will gain the necessary weight. They do not require special pelleted feed and expensive corn. Grass, grain, and fresh drinking water are all that is needed. Minus - next year you will have to acquire young growth again. Muscovy ducks are more likely an option for farmers who keep the bird for themselves. Individuals will reproduce on their own. It is optimal to have several females and one drake.
