Pig breeding at home provides the family with delicious quality meat. Many sell surplus pork to supplement the family budget. When fattening pigs, it is important to take into account the laws in force in the country, so that you can legally sell meat, not get into conflicts with neighbors who are unhappy with an unpleasant neighborhood with a home farm. Consider how many pigs, according to existing standards, can be kept in a personal subsidiary farm.

Basic requirements for content

The rules for growing pigs are regulated by the Order of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation No. 114. They relate to keeping in open sheds and are valid for private households. Primary requirements:

  1. When constructing premises for pigs within the private sector, the required distances to neighboring areas are indicated. For a pigsty for 5 heads - 10 meters, for 8 heads - 20 meters.
  2. Construction on the site of animal burials is prohibited.
  3. Places for walking and keeping animals are fenced off.
  4. The size of the pigsty and the places of walking must comply with the sanitary standards given in the appendix to the Order.
  5. The room must have natural and forced ventilation.
  6. The floor and walls are made of moisture-resistant materials that can be disinfected.
  7. They regularly disinfect and destroy rodents and insects in the pigsty.
  8. When used for feeding food waste, they are boiled according to the regulations (30 minutes).
  9. The purchase of livestock is carried out in proven farms. All pigs must have the prescribed certificates of identification.

For the storage of manure, special areas are used where fecal masses are thermally disinfected. Disposal of waste and bodies is carried out according to certain regulations.

Sanitary standards

To get high-quality meat, it is important to follow sanitary standards during maintenance, closely monitor the health of the livestock and feed. Sanitary rules are also spelled out in the regulations:

  1. Access to the pigsty is allowed only to persons involved in the work.
  2. For work, overalls are used, the wearing of which outside the premises for pigs is unacceptable. Clothes are cleaned, washed and disinfected regularly.
  3. Pigsty sanitization is carried out at least once a year (for boars - monthly). Requires lime treatment of walls, disinfection of equipment, feeders. The pigs are returned to the premises 5 days after treatment.
  4. The pigs are given potable water to drink, ensuring constant access.
  5. Manure is removed regularly (1-2 days).
  6. Feed storage areas are freed from stocks, washed and disinfected.
  7. If a mechanical feed and water supply is implemented, the containers are cleaned daily, disinfected regularly.
  8. With a large livestock, slaughter is carried out in special slaughterhouses. At home, pigs are slaughtered in areas remote from the pigsty and manure storage.

Pigs are regularly subjected to veterinary examination, to prevent the development of infections, vaccinations are carried out at the prescribed time. With a significant livestock, special premises are required:

  • quarantine;
  • maternity for sows.

When planning the construction of a pigsty, it is necessary to ensure the proper temperature conditions of detention so that the livestock does not freeze, does not catch cold. Pigs do not like drafts - the cracks need to be repaired. Ventilation should not create air flows more than 0.7 meters per second.

In the cold, the air in the pigsty is heated to 12 °, at lower rates, growth slows down, pigs catch cold. Young animals require a temperature of 18-22 °.

Quarantine rooms have 2 functions:

  • overexposure of newly arrived animals before joining with the main livestock;
  • isolation of diseased individuals so as not to infect everyone.

The quarantine zone should not be located near the pigsty, provide for the thorough isolation of suspicious individuals, change of clothing for personnel after contact. Pigs arriving from other places are quarantined for a period of a month so that the incubation period of any diseases ends before contact with the inhabitants of the common room. At this time, the arrivals are regularly examined, the necessary vaccinations are carried out. If diseases are detected, they make a statement to the veterinary services, informing where the pigs were purchased.

They also quarantine their own individuals, characterized by lethargy, weakness, loss of appetite, and unnatural behavior. Timely isolation from the general herd will help contain the spread of infection. The pigs who are sick are provided with enhanced nutrition and comfortable living conditions.

How many pigs can be kept in a private house

The laws of the Russian Federation do not determine the exact number of pigs allowed to be kept in private farms. These regulations are usually spelled out in regional regulations that should be studied before building a pigsty on a personal plot of land.

The laws in force in the Russian Federation do not allow the breeding of pigs on the territory of summer cottages within the framework of professional (commercial) activities. There, a special point can be allowed (indicating the exact number of goals) or prohibit such an activity. If there is no point, it is better to carefully coordinate the decision with the leadership of the partnership and the closest neighbors in the country.
