Dimensions and drawings of the 10 best types of rabbit feeders

Depending on the design, there are several types of rabbit feeders. The differences between these products mainly come down to the peculiarities of serving food for animals. However, each feeder must meet a number of requirements, without which it is impossible to provide suitable living conditions for rabbits. But, despite this, you can make such structures with your own hands.

Requirements for feeders

Regardless of the type of construction, each rabbit feeder must meet the following requirements:

  • convenient design that simplifies both feeding and adding feed;
  • the size should correspond to the daily feed intake;
  • the material from which the feeders are made must be durable, since rabbits tend to gnaw objects;
  • the feeder must be fixed to a solid surface;
  • lack of sharp corners.

The material for rabbit feeders should be neutral. That is, if they enter the body, the particles should not cause intoxication or other consequences.

You should also take into account how many animals the product is designed for. If the feeder is made for several rabbits, then it is important that such a device provides access to all pets, but at the same time withstands increased loads and does not tip over.

Basic types of structures

Rabbit feeders are divided into several types depending on the type of construction and material of manufacture.

Nursery

This type of rabbit feeding device is more commonly known as a sennik. The latter is mainly used for feeding hay or grass. These attachments are attached directly to the cage, thus providing constant access to food. In some cases, senniks are attached directly to the door. This option makes cleaning the trough easier. However, if the cage is used for keeping young stock, this type of attachment cannot be used.

In the form of a gutter

Grooved constructions are used in cases where several rabbits are kept in one cage. Such devices are universal, as they allow you to serve various types of food: grass, hay, compound feed and root crops. These designs are easy to maintain.

Bunker

Hopper structures are used for feeding grain and granulated feed. The name of this device comes from the fact that a container is attached on top, into which food is poured.This design is also convenient to use, as it allows you to put as much food at a time as the rabbits consume for several days. Galvanized steel is often used to make bunker troughs.

In the form of cups

Least common option. The cups are convenient for serving root vegetables. But due to the design features, such feeders are not used for constant feeding. The cups must be removed from the cage at all times for washing. And rabbits often turn these feeders over, scattering food.

What tools and materials are needed for self-production

Materials and tools are selected taking into account the selected type of construction. Depending on this, you may need:

  • sheets of galvanized steel or plywood;
  • wooden boards;
  • plexiglass;
  • slate;
  • plastic or other materials.

In addition to these materials, it is recommended to prepare iron rods and wires. Additionally, you will need tools such as a hacksaw (for metal or wood), a hammer, nails (screws), and so on.

Dimensions and Drawings

The sizes of cages and feeders are selected taking into account the characteristics of the rabbits. That is, you need to take into account the size and rate of food consumption in a particular breed. Also, when sizing, it is necessary to determine the number of animals for which the feeder will be available.

Before starting work, it is recommended to draw a diagram of the future device. This will simplify the manufacture of the product and help avoid mistakes.

Step by step manufacturing

As stated above, there are several types of feeder designs. Therefore, the procedure for making a food serving device changes taking into account this parameter.

From pipes

For making a do-it-yourself feeder, sewer pipes are often used. To create such a structure, you will need:

  1. Cut a 30 cm piece from the pipe.
  2. At a distance of 13 centimeters, draw 2 lines on this part.
  3. Moving from the edge, cut off 14 centimeters on each side, leaving 2 centimeters in the center.
  4. Cut off the remaining pipe pieces. This will create a groove with a jumper of 2 centimeters in the middle.
  5. Heat with a hot air gun and straighten the cut pieces.
  6. From the obtained sheets of plastic, using scissors, cut the parts with which you can close the pipe on the sides.

At the end of the work, the plastic must be sanded with sandpaper. Next, using a glue gun, you need to attach the cut pieces to the ends and make holes in the groove for the wire, through which the structure will be attached to the cage.

From the building profile

To make a rabbit feeder, you will need:

  1. Make 2 oblique cuts at a distance of 30 centimeters from the edges in the building profile with a section of 100x40 millimeters and a length of 1.2 meters.
  2. Bend one part of the profile and fasten the "run over" parts with rivets.
  3. Make 2 perpendicular cuts at a distance of 40 centimeters from the folded part.
  4. Bend the workpiece on the other side, also riveting the sides.

From the building profile

A bunker must be made from the second profile. To do this, it is necessary to fix (weld) several segments so that the side walls are directed downward. The end result should be a box. This hopper must be fixed at an angle to the made feeder.

From a plastic bottle

This feeder is only suitable for grain. To make such a device, it is enough to take one 5-liter bottle and cut it into 2 parts. The bottom piece then needs to be secured to the cage wall. You can also cut the bottle lengthwise to create a trough feeder.

Plywood

Homemade bunker feeders are made of plywood. To create such a structure, you need:

  1. Cut several pieces of plywood.
  2. Connect these parts in such a way that you get a small trough with low sides.
  3. Fasten long pieces of cut plywood on the sides.
  4. Cut the front and back of the trough and attach to the rest of the structure.
  5. Fix the hinged door on the hinges from above.

Finally, it is recommended to sand all sharp corners with sandpaper. Similarly, you can make a sennik at home.

But in this case, you do not need to make a trough, and instead of the front wall, you need to install a wooden lattice that will hold the grass.

From the canister

This option is suitable for beginners. In this case, you do not need to build a feeder, but cut out such a device from a plastic canister. This will require:

  1. Cut an opening at the top for feed and at the side for access to food.
  2. Fasten a block in the bottom of the hole that will hold the feed.
  3. Fasten smaller bars inside on the side walls.
  4. Attach a sheet of plywood to the side blocks at an angle, which will allow metered feeding.

It is recommended to sheathe the lower block with a sheet of tin, so that the rabbits do not gnaw this stopper.

Professional recommendations

When making feeders, it is recommended to give preference to those models that are easy to clean and do not create problems when filling with food. It should also be borne in mind that a reservoir of food with a length of at least 40 millimeters is allocated for each rabbit. It is necessary to place such structures in a place convenient for animals.
