Description of the Slavyanka potato variety, features of cultivation and care

Every year new varieties of vegetable crops appear, which surpass their "parents" in their qualities. So, quite recently, Ukrainian breeders of the Kirovograd Institute of Agroindustrial Production of the UAAN have bred Slavyanka potatoes. Having passed all the tests, the variety began to be cultivated in the regions of Ukraine. Having established itself from the best side, in 2009 the culture came to the territory of Russia. From that moment on, Slavyanka began a victorious march across all corners of our country. What is such a glory of the variety, we will tell you today in this article.

Description of the variety

According to the originators, the Slavyanka variety belongs to mid-season crops. The growing season from planting to harvest is 100–120 days. Potatoes are quite fruitful. On average, from 100 sq. m comes out 300 kg of root crops. If you follow the rules of agricultural technology, this figure increases to 400 kg. At the same time, about 13 large tubers are formed in one bush, with a small amount of fines.

It is worth paying attention: A distinctive feature of the Slavyanka variety from similar crops is that all its marketable fruits with a rich taste retain their qualities until next year.

  • stems are very spreading;
  • foliage - wavy, small, dark green;
  • tubers are oval-elongated;
  • the skin is thin, even, pink-purple;

According to its purpose, the Slavyanka variety belongs to table crops. Potatoes are well used in soups, main courses and pastries. Moreover, all the dishes are tasty and satisfying.

Growing

The Slavyanka variety is an undemanding culture. It adapts well to any climatic conditions, types of soil and light conditions. Without due leaving potatoes gives good yield indicators. Due to these qualities, Slavyanka is ideal for lazy or novice gardeners.

adapts well

However, in order to get record yields, experienced summer residents are advised to observe the following growing rules:

  1. Potatoes are planted only in heated soil. The optimal temperature is + 10- + 12 degrees.
  2. Before planting, the soil is thoroughly dug up and cleared of weeds. The planting material is germinated and etched with special preparations.
  3. In the prepared soil, taking into account the distance of 35 cm in the row and 75 cm in the row-spacing, holes are formed with a depth of 10-15 cm.
  4. Humus with wood ash is first laid out in the grooves, one handful at a time, and then the seed is laid.

At the end of planting potatoes, the holes are buried with earth. For uniform germination of tubers, it is recommended to shed the area with an airborne method.

Care features

The characteristic of the Slavyanka variety indicates that with a minimum of effort in agricultural technology, the plant grows well practically throughout Russia. But in order to improve the quality of yields, at different stages of development of the culture, it will be necessary to create favorable conditions.

The main care for potatoes is watering, mulching, weeding, hilling and spraying from pests.

General recommendations for carrying out agricultural techniques:

minimum effort

  1. Watering the soil. Slavyanka in comparison with similar tuberous plants needs the least moisture. It is enough to irrigate the soil before the germination of the shoots, during the budding period and during the flowering of the culture.
  2. Soil mulching. During a long drought, it is recommended to spread a protective layer of rotted grass, foliage or needles between the potato bushes.
  3. Weeding the site. The manual method is considered the best option in removing weeds. Using dry, the result of weeding will decrease several times. This is justified by the fact that the root system of cut plants gives rise to new shoots.
  4. Hilling bushes. This technique will increase the volume of loose soil for the development and growth of tubers. As a rule, the hilling of plants is carried out before the tops are closed.
  5. Spraying potatoes. In order to avoid deformation of the bushes from pests and diseases, at the first signs of them, gardeners recommend immediately using pesticides.

When growing potatoes, do not forget about feeding. Organic fertilizers together with mineral complexes will have a beneficial effect not only on the development of the plant, but also on the formation of tubers.

Oddly enough, among such a large number of advantages, the Slavyanka variety has no significant disadvantages. The only thing worth paying attention to is that potato tubers are not resistant to mechanical damage. Therefore, during harvesting, you need to be extremely careful..

Pests and diseases

The potato variety Slavyanka is endowed with good resistance to diseases such as:

a large number

  • cancer;
  • alternaria;
  • scab;
  • wrinkled mosaic;
  • powdery mildew.

Potatoes need special protection only against diseases such as late blight and bacterial wilting. As a rule, these diseases develop if the crop is grown for several years in a row in the same area. Therefore, in order to prevent the occurrence of diseases, it is advisable to change the place for planting the variety every 2 years.

Among the pests that damage the plant, the Colorado potato beetle and the potato flea should be distinguished. When these insects are found, gardeners recommend using folk remedies. In case of a strong invasion, it is necessary to apply chemicals such as ImidorPro, Previkur Energy, Inta-Vir.

Harvesting and storage

You can understand when you can start collecting Slavyanka potatoes by the state of its tops and the skin of the tubers.When the plant bushes begin to wither, it is recommended to dig in one bush. If the skin of the tubers has grown stronger, they begin mass digging.

After the harvest is harvested, he is first given time to dry in the sun. After that, he gets over from rot, and is sorted into planting and forage material. Then the potatoes are sent for further storage.

    Last year, in the first I planted such a variety. For the experiment, we planted one hundred square meters in order to understand what the yield will be. For potatoes, I use BioGrow, here, too, I decided not to break the tradition. As a result, each bush contains 13-16 tubers, the total yield is more than 400 kilos.
